IntroductionThe Waterwheel Forced Swim Test tank waterwheel detects rotations of the wheel in the tank. It can detect both the amount of rotation and the direction, so if, for example, an animal makes the wheel rock backwards and forwards without actually completing a revolution, the wheel will still detect this and will report such things as the number of degrees of rotation and the number of reversals of direction. DetailsThe wheel can be removed from the tank. ANY-maze is not able to detect whether the wheel is present, so if you remove it you WILL still be able to start tests (although obviously the test won't provide any useful data). The wheel generates 32 pulses per revolution, which means it has an angular resolution of 11.25°; in other words, it can't detect a turn of less than this. The wheel will work correctly up to a maximum rotational speed of 1000 rpm (around 16 revolutions per second).
