Using the same sensor to make readings in multiple apparatus

Introduction

If you set up ANY-maze so that multiple apparatus use the same sensor, then how will ANY-maze know which apparatus a sensor reading relates to? The answer is that it won't, so it will ask you.

Details

As you may know, you can set up ANY-maze so that the reading from a multifunction remote sensor is automatically stored with a test. When you do this ANY-maze will show the status of the test as Waiting for pre-test reading and when you press the Enter button on the remote, the sensor's reading will be transmitted to ANY-maze, stored with the test and the status will change to Ready...

But what if you have multiple apparatus. For example, you might have two open fields in which you will be running tests simultaneously and you want to measure the light level in these apparatus before each tests begin.

To achieve this, you can simply select the same light sensor on the same multifunction remote for both apparatus. So, you'll place the remote over one apparatus and press the Enter button to read it's light level and then place it over the other apparatus and press the Enter button to read it's light level. But when the remote transmits a light level, how will ANY-maze know which apparatus the light level relates to?

The answer is that it won't know, so it will send a message back to the remote control, which will then ask you which apparatus the reading is for - see figure 1 below. The remote will also generate two quick vibrations to indicate that a question is displayed on the screen.

Figure 1. When ANY-maze doesn't know which apparatus a sensor reading applies to, it will ask you.

Here, pressing  the Next button will move down the list of apparatus and pressing the Enter button will tell ANY-maze that the reading relates to that apparatus. If you select '-- Cancel --' then the reading will simply be forgotten, as if you had never taken it.

This applies to all the sensors and will occur whenever the same sensor is selected for multiple apparatus.
