Randomising relevant and irrelevant dimensions for the Ugo Basile Operon

Introduction

When you add an Ugo Basile Operon to your protocol, ANY-maze will set up the I/O inputs and outputs available on the device. You will also be asked whether you would like ANY-maze to set up options for the 'Relevant' and 'Irrelevant' dimensions (light, texture and odour) - this in turn will allow you some control in the experiment itself of how these dimensions are randomised between the animals you add to the experiment.

Operon devices can only be added to ANY-maze in the Ugo Basile Operon protocol mode. This mode is only enabled if your ANY-maze licence allows you to use an Operon.

Details

When adding an Operon to the protocol, if you answer Yes to the message asking if you want to set up the options for the relevant and irrelevant dimensions, ANY-maze will create two Fields in your protocol, one for the 'Relevant' dimension and the other for the 'Irrelevant' dimension. Each of these is a 'choice' field, with available options of 'Light', 'Texture' or 'Odour'.

These fields are 'system-generated', and so they won't be available in the protocol list under the Fields section. They are, however, available to Procedures, can be viewed on the Data page and can be used to filter Results.

If you've opted to allow ANY-maze to add the relevant and irrelevant dimension options, then the Experiment page will contain some extra options to allow you to define how to set up your experiment. These options are described in detail under Entering and editing the Operon experiment settings.
