Problems running ANY-maze on an Apple Mac computer

This information applies to versions of ANY-maze prior to version 7.50. ANY-maze version 7.50 and later will not run on Parallels.

Introduction

ANY-maze is a Microsoft Windows application, although we are aware of people running ANY-maze successfully on an Apple Mac computer under Boot Camp. We are also aware of people running ANY-maze under Parallels, although with some quite serious problems, and so we don't recommend that ANY-maze is run in this way.

ANY-maze Support staff cannot provide any direct support for Boot Camp, but we will support ANY-maze itself when run this way.

Known issues with Parallels

File corruption loading ANY-maze files from the Desktop

When running Windows using Parallels, the Windows desktop and the Apple OS desktop appear to be shared between the two operating systems, which we have seen causing problems in ANY-maze.

This is a particular problem when converting files from an older version of ANY-maze, when the files invariably become corrupted and are therefore unusable.

This problem can be avoided by copying the files into a folder on the Parallels virtual machine, then opening them from that folder from within ANY-maze (i.e. avoiding the desktop completely).

MP4 video files cannot be loaded

Under Parallels, the DirectShow interface that ANY-maze uses can fail to play MP4 video files. You may be able to resolve this by converting the videos to a different file format (for example, WMV) and playing those.
