Transferring the data

There are two ways in which you can transfer data from the ANY-maze Data page to other programs; either by copying it to the clipboard or by saving it to a file.
Copying data to the clipboard
Copying the contents of the Data page spreadsheet to the Windows clipboard is usually the easiest way to transfer data to another program which is running on the same computer as ANY-maze.
To transfer the data, you simply need to click the Copy button then open the other program and click Paste. There are, however, various points to note depending which program you're planning to paste the data into - these are described in detail in the topics listed under See also below.
Saving the data to a file
Saving the contents of the Data page to a file is the best way to transfer the data to a program which is running on another computer and can also help to avoid the issues described above when pasting data into SPSS and Statistica.
To save the data you simply need to click the Save in the ribbon bar. The standard File save window will open, where you can specify a name for the file and choose where it will be saved. Here, you can also choose the format in which the data will be saved from the following options:
| SYLK format | SYLK stands for 'Symbolic link' and is a format developed by Microsoft for use with Spreadsheet programs. As you'd therefore expect, SYLK format files can be read in Excel but other programs support this format too. Using SYLK format (at least for transfer to Excel) has the advantage that formatting is retained. |
| CSV format | CSV stands for 'Comma-Separated Values', and in this format the spreadsheet is saved in a text format with one row per line and a comma between each item. This format is directly supported by Excel - indeed you'll find that Windows will describe such files as Microsoft Excel Comma-Separated Values Files. |
| dBase III/IV | dBase format was originally developed for the once popular 'dBase' database program, but today it's supported by most database, spreadsheet and statistics programs. |
| Tab-separated text | Text format files are almost identical to CSV files except that a tab character is used to separate the items in each row. |
Copying or saving just a part of the Data page spreadsheet
In some situations, you may want to transfer just a part of the Data page spreadsheet to another program - for example, just one column or just a single animal's tests. In these cases you can simply use the mouse to select the rows, columns or cells to copy or save.
