The Ugo Basile Fear Conditioning Cage shocker

Introduction

The Ugo Basile Fear Conditioning Cage includes a built-in shocker which can apply a shock of variable intensity to the grid floor of the cage.

Shock current

The shocker is able to apply a shock of any value from 0.1mA to 3.0mA in steps of 0.1mA. The shock duration can be adjusted from 50ms up to a maximum of 10s.

Using the shocker in an experiment

In order to use the shocker in an experiment, you must include it in the protocol. This is a simple process and is described in detail in the Setting up a shocker topic.

Although you must include the shocker in the protocol, this will not cause any shocks to be administered during a test. For that to happen, you will need to include one or more procedures. For example, a procedure could determine when a certain time has elapsed and then administer a 1mA shock for 500ms.
