Problems when recording videos of tests

Running out of disk space

If the disk to which a video is being recorded runs out of disk space, recording of the video will automatically stop.

In the majority of cases the video will be usable, although the last few seconds before the disk became full may be lost. If the disk became full very soon after the video started to be recorded, then none of the video may be usable, in which case the video will be automatically deleted.

Obviously it is a good idea to ensure that there is enough space available on the disk for the expected size of the video. Unfortunately it's often hard to judge how large a video may be, as this will depend heavily on the size of image and also on the contents. Usually the best approach is to look at the size of other videos of the same or similar apparatus. Alternatively a very rough guide is to allow 10MB per minute. For example, if you plan to run an experiment consisting of 40 5-minute tests, then you should make sure you have at least 2GB of free space on the disk to which videos will be recorded.

When the protocol specifies that videos of tests are to be recorded automatically, then the videos will be stored in a folder on the same disk drive as the ANY-maze experiment file. If the experiment has not been saved yet, then this will be the Windows temporary folder which, by default, will be on the same disk as the operating system, usually drive C.

An error occurs in the recording process

If an error occurs in the actual process of recording a video then the video will not be saved. The entire video will be discarded, including everything up to the moment the error occurred, no matter how much that is. So, if an error occurs 10 hours into a recording, all 10 hours will be lost. Fortunately errors during recording are extremely rare.
