Setting the location of a movable zone

Introduction

Movable zones are not always physically located in the same place - for example, the reward arm of a Y-maze or the island in a water-maze. There are various ways that a movable zone can be set up on the zone's settings page, and these require different ways of specifying the zone's location for individual tests.

Details

Movable zones can be set up in the following ways:

The position varies between (but not within) the animals

This type of movable zone will be specified for each animal, but once its position is defined, it should not change between different tests for that animal. To set the position of this type of movable zone, you can use the Animals spreadsheet on the Experiment page, or by accessing the Animal details report for the animal.

The position varies within (and possibly between) the animals

A movable zone set up in this way will require you to specify the position of the zone for each test. ANY-maze will prompt you to do this on the Tests page before you start each test, or you can specify the position on the Test details report.

When a movable zone's position can vary between the tests for a single animal, you can define the zone's position for each stage of the experiment. For details on how to set the zone's position for a stage, see

Specifying the positions of movable zones during a stage.

The position follows the positions of other movable zones

To specify the position of a movable zone which follows the position of another zone, you must specify the position of that other zone.

The position depends on the position of the XXX zone

To specify the position of a movable zone which is dependent on the position of another zone, you must specify the position of that other zone.
