Stopping a video recording of a test

Automatically recording videos of tests

ANY-maze can be set up to automatically record videos of your tests, under the What to record while testing section of the protocol. You can also start the video recorder using the Start the video recorder procedure action.

In both of these cases, the video will be recorded to a temporary file, and when the test ends, this file will be renamed with an appropriate name for the test (see Recording videos of tests).

But what happens if you stop the video recorder manually, before the test ends? When you stop the video recording, you'll get the option to Stop recording the video or to Cancel the recording. If you cancel the recording, the temporary video file will simply be deleted. If you stop the recording, however, ANY-maze will save the file to a sensible name for the apparatus ("Video of [animal] in [apparatus]" with the date and the time. You'll also be notified in the Errors & Warnings panel that this has happened. This ensures that the video won't be lost, and can be linked to the correct test that was in progress (or hadn't yet started) when the video was stopped.

Note that if you start a video recording manually, using the Record video button to the top right of the apparatus image, then you are prompted for a video file name before the video starts recording. This means that the file will already have a name, and so when you stop the video, it will simply stop recording to this file.
