Add/Edit Component Wizard : Set up connections

Introduction

The 'Set up connections' page of the ANY-maze Operant interface 'Add/Edit component' wizard will allow you to choose which ports of the interface are connected to which of the connections on your component.

Details

Most components that you want to use will have a single output or input connection, so there will be a single drop-list to choose from. Some have multiple input or output connections, and occasionally you will have a component that has both inputs and outputs (such as a retractable lever which has an input for the lever response, and an output to extend/retract the lever).

You can connect any of the connections on your component to any of the ports on the ANY-maze Operant interface (although you'll probably find things easier to manage if the same component uses adjacent ports on the interface).

If you try to select the same port for use with different connections of the same component, ANY-maze will warn you of a 'port conflict' and won't let you continue to the next page of the wizard until this has been resolved.

If any of the ports of the ANY-maze Operant interface are already used for a different component, they will be shown as 'in use' in the drop-list. You can select a port that's already in use - but when you have finished adding the component and return to the main ANY-maze Operant interface configuration window, this will be listed as a 'port conflict' and you'll need to resolve this before you can save the configuration for the interface. To do this, simply click the Edit button to alter the setup of one of the conflicting components.

Figure 2. If you select the same port for use with more than one component, the ANY-maze Operant interface configuration window will indicate the port conflict. In this case, input port 1 has been used for the Standard lever and the four channel IR controller - you'll need to edit one of these components before you can save this configuration.

What next?

Once you've selected the connections which your component will use, click Next to move to the Edit port names page of the wizard.
