The Keys panel

Introduction

The Keys panel shows information about any keys set up to record behaviour. As well as highlighting the behaviour when the key is pressed, it shows the time exhibiting this behaviour, as well as the number of times the behaviour has occurred.

Touch mode

When you're using ANY-maze on a tablet, you probably won't have a physical keyboard, and it would be awkward to use the tablet's on-screen keyboard to score behaviour (since it takes up a fair amount of space and might obscure the video image). For this reason, putting ANY-maze into Touch mode will cause the Keys panel to be split into two halves - the list of keys as described above, and a 'virtual' key touch pad which you can use to do the scoring.

Figure 1. The 'virtual' Keys panel, showing keys that can be pressed during the test simply by touching the screen. The 'Sniffing' key is currently being pressed. Note that the standard key information is also shown.

When in touch mode, you can arrange the keys any way you like within the panel to make it more comfortable to use. Use the button to enter 'Edit' mode, where you can use the circular 'handles' at the edges of the keys to resize them, or drag each key to a different place on the panel.

More details

The following buttons are specific to this panel, and are only visible when ANY-maze is running in 'Touch mode'. In this case, when the Keys panel is the promoted (main) panel, these will appear alongside the test control buttons in the tool bar at the top of the window; otherwise they will appear as the title of the tabbed section when the Keys panel is the currently-selected tab:

Edit layout - Switches the keys panel into an 'editing' mode which allows you to alter the layout of the keys on the touch screen panel.
Restore default - Restores the default layout of the keys on the touch screen panel.

When this panel is the selected tab, the right-hand side of the tabbed section's title will contain controls relevant to the tabbed display:

Show Help - Displays help on this panel.
Promote panel - Promotes this panel to be the main panel of the Test window.
Collapse tabs - Collapses the tabbed section, to give more space to the promoted panel. The tabbed section can be reinstated by clicking on any tab.
Close panel - Closes this tab, removing it from the tabbed section. It can be re-added using the Panel settings button on the ribbon bar, or the Test window panels section of the protocol.

The information in this panel will generally persist at the end of the test (depending on how you've set the Test window panel settings in the protocol). For more information, see Clearing test information ready for the next test.
