The Zones panel

Introduction

The Zones panel shows information about the animal's zone entries during the test. As well as highlighting the zone(s) that the animal is currently in, it shows the time it's spent in the zone on the current visit, as well as the number of entries to the zone and the total time the animal has spent in the zone.

Figure 1. The Zones panel for a water-maze experiment, showing the animal's entries to the various quadrants of the apparatus. The animal is currently in the 'NW' zone.

Investigation zones

When a zone is set up as an investigation zone, then the information in this panel relates to the times that the animal has spent investigating the zone, rather than the time the animal has spent in the zone.

Movable zones

If any of the zones in the protocol are movable zones, the Zones panel will also show the location of the zone. If the location of a zone hasn't yet been set, the location will be shown in red as 'Not set' - it's a good idea to resolve this by specifying the position of the zone before the test starts. (If you don't do this, the test will still run, but anything that relies on the position of the zone having been set - for example, a procedure which uses the zone's location - won't work correctly). The other information in the Zones panel will be blank if the zone's position hasn't been specified, since ANY-maze doesn't know where the zone is and so can't show the animal's entries into it.

This may not matter to you during the test, and you can of course specify the zone's location later, after the test has been run, in which case ANY-maze's results analysis will be able to correctly determine any measures relating to the zone.

Details

There are no buttons specific to this panel.

When this panel is the selected tab, the right-hand side of the tabbed section's title will contain controls relevant to the tabbed display:

Show Help - Displays help on this panel.
Promote panel - Promotes this panel to be the main panel of the Test window.
Collapse tabs - Collapses the tabbed section, to give more space to the promoted panel. The tabbed section can be reinstated by clicking on any tab.
Close panel - Closes this tab, removing it from the tabbed section. It can be re-added using the Panel settings button on the ribbon bar, or the Test window panels section of the protocol.

The information in this panel will generally persist at the end of the test (depending on how you've set the Test window panel settings in the protocol). For more information, see Clearing test information ready for the next test.
